The Zoo takes visitors on a long journey of discovery. Our proposal for the new restaurant for the Basel Zoo is inspired by this very experience.
Opening up the ground floor, the restaurant is developed upon a extended wooden deck that is retrofitted to fit in the existing trees, or to incorporate large ramps that cycle upward to create an independent public space.

With a playful twist, our design derives from concepts such us that of a 'shelter' or an 'observatory' in order to enrich the Zoo experience. The restaurant deck extends far into the Zoo, as a light structure, while the bushy vegetation of the islands within it run freely underneath it, become a spectacle that in it's turn help tie our design tie-in with the broader Zoo - architecture.
